Free Community College for Adults 25+ 

What is MassReconnect?

MassReconnect is a newly approved Massachusetts state funded program providing free community college to adults 25 or older with no previous college degree. 

Who is eligible?

Massachusetts residents 25 years or older can take advantage of this opportunity to earn an associate degree or certificate for free at any of the Commonwealth’s 15 public community colleges.

Eligible individuals must:

  • Be 25 or older on the first day of classes
  • Have been a permanent legal resident of the Commonwealth for at least one year at start of the enrolled term
  • Have not previously received an associate or bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
  • Enroll in at least six credits per semester in an approved program of study leading to an associate degree or certificate
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the college’s requirements
  • Not be in default on any federal or state student loans at any institution, or owe a refund for any previous state financial aid program 
  • Not have a remaining balance owed to the institution for the costs of tuition, fees, books and supplies
  • Complete the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  2. Complete the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - for Summer 2024 courses
  3. Complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - for Fall 2024 courses

Recipients who are later determined to be ineligible for MassReconnect may be billed for disbursed funds. 

Funding covers tuition and fees; not to exceed MCC’s published cost of attendance (Tuition and Fees = $6,048 for full-time* fall/spring) and an allowance for books and supplies; not to exceed MCC’s published cost of attendance (Books and Supplies = $1,200 for full-time* fall/spring)

*full-time attendance is 12 credits for each semester
