Let Middlesex Community College be your pathway to success!
MCC’s Pathway & Academic Maps offer a clear semester-by-semester breakdown of the curriculum required to complete
any of MCC’s 70+ degree or certificate programs. Each map identifies milestone courses
that must be completed by a certain semester in order to progress through the program
and graduate on time, helpful tips and reminders for students, as well as career and
transfer outlooks for your program.

Designed for first-semester students who may still be exploring academic interests and career opportunities, MCC’s Pathway Maps can help you stay on track and complete core courses, while you’re choosing a major program of study.
Each map:
- Identifies milestone courses that must be completed by a certain semester in order to progress through your program

Arts, Humanities, and Communication Pathway
This guided pathway is intended as the first semester for students with interests in the arts, design, literature, communication or philosophy. It is designed to help students focus on these particular academic areas, career fields and potential university transfer programs. Transfer majors for this pathway include: Art History, Communications, Creative Writing, English/Literature, Graphic Design, Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Pre-Law, Secondary Education (minor), Studio Art, Theater, TV and Film Production, Music Business, Music/Art/Theater Therapy, Music Technology, and Post Secondary Education.

Business Pathway
Students considering a career in the field of business have a wonderful opportunity
to explore career and transfer options by following the Business Pathway. Designed
to introduce students to the varied employment possibilities in the area of business,
this pathway allows students to explore careers in fields such as bookkeeping, payroll,
sales, automotive or aviation mechanics, human resources, management, marketing, retail
buying, hotel management, convention planning, and tourism.

Education Pathway
This pathway is intended as the first semester for students who are interested in an education program. These courses will meet requirements in many of the education programs and/or will prepare students to continue on to complete education program prerequisite requirements.
All students are encouraged to attend special registration sessions for a general
overview of the Education programs offered at Middlesex Community College. Middlesex
degree programs for this guided pathway are: Elementary Education Transfer, Early
Childhood Education Transfer, Early Childhood Education and Human Services.

Health Pathway
This pathway is intended as the first 1-2 semesters for students who are interested
in a health program. These courses will meet requirements in many of the health programs
and/or will prepare students to continue on to complete program prerequisite requirements.
All students are encouraged to attend a Health Program Information session for a general
overview of the health programs offered at Middlesex Community College. There are
also specific information sessions for some of the programs that are required for
admission to the program. These include Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic
Medical Sonography, and Nursing.

Public Service Pathway
Students considering a career in the field of public service, including Criminal Justice,
Fire Science, Paralegal Studies or Human Services have a wonderful opportunity to
explore all these options by following the Public Service Pathway. Designed to introduce
students to the varied employment possibilities in the area of public service, this
pathway allows students to explore careers in fields such as law enforcement, administration
of justice, fire service, paralegal careers and counseling of varied groups such as
children, elders, minorities, refugee populations and the homeless.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Pathway
This pathway provides access to a wide range of programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). If you are unsure of which area you want to pursue, you may follow either of two pathway sequences. The pathways are intended as the first semester of a STEM major. You will take courses designed to move you forward to a degree and also explore career options in STEM.
The Science, Engineering and Mathematics Sequence is aligned with degrees for students
who want to be engineers, scientists, science or mathematics teachers, or computer
scientists, or who have interest in pursuing research in science or mathematics. These
degrees are all designed to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. The Technology
Sequence is aligned with degrees in fields that prepare students for direct entry
into work and also offer transfer opportunities. Degrees from this sequence offer
employment opportunities in the fields of biotechnology, energy, mechanical design,
and IT/Cybersecurity.

The Social Science pathway provides access to a range of programs within the social
and behavioral sciences. As a field, social and behavioral sciences explore human
development, social behavior as well as historical, global, and political analysis.
As part of this area’s course offering students will be asked to think critically
about these and other connections and effectively communicate their ideas. Transfer
majors for this pathway include: American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Geography,
History, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, Pre-law,
Psychology, and Sociology.
