A Little Bite of Everything Art Seminar: Edward Hopper

This course covers a little bit of everything you could think of! Decorate chocolate covered treats, cookies, cupcakes even cake decorating. You will learn the ins and outs of decorating any dessert to the T! Students will take home their own decorated treats for friends and family to enjoy. Enrollment is capped at 9 participants. All participants must register by or before Friday, April 20, 2018. A supply fee of $20 is due at the first class, payable to the instructor via cash or check. Edward Hopper (1882-1967) was a prominent American realist painter and printmaker. This seminar will present an overview of his work. While he was most popularly known for his oil painting, he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker in etching. Both in his urban and rural scenes, his spare and finely calculated renderings reflected his personal vision of modern American life. Barnes in 1922 to “promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.” The Barnes holds one of the finest collections of PostImpressionist and early Modern paintings, with extensive works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Henri Rousseau, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine and Giorgio de Chirico, as well as American masters Charles Demuth, William Glackens, Horace Pippin and Maurice Prendergast. You will learn different concepts and visual perceptions of the basic foundations of drawing in a relaxed environment. A master of 20th century Modernism, the artistic career of Henri Matisse (18691954) proves his boundless creativity and energy. This seminar presents an overview of Henri Matisse’s life and art, beginning with his powerful Fauvist work. Matisse’s style continued to change and evolve, as we see his subject matter gravitate around the female form, leading to his mature style focusing purely on color and form. Join Cindy Mattson of Given Erwin Florist for this 4 week class. We will cover the principles and elements of Floral Design, as well as fresh flower care and handling. A hands-on workshop will be included in each class session. All flowers, materials, and tools will be provided you can take home each project. No experience is necessary! While this is more of an educational program, the atmosphere is casual and the material we’ll work with is lovely. We’ll use a different combination of florals each week.
