Lovely Libations
Mead is the newest adult beverage, 9000 years in the making. The goal of this course is to provide the audience with an exposure to, and an appreciation for, the fastest growing segment of the alcohol market. Mead is a fermented beverage made from honey. It has a rich historical background and cultural presence in many places around the globe. It is the drink of gods and kings, the liquid of legends and stories, and now you can enjoy it too! In this course, you will learn the history of mead and get exposed to its presence in cultures around the world. You will learn about the different styles of mead, and how they are made. You will be shown the ingredient, materials, and process that you can use to make a high-quality mead of your own at home. Finally, you will sample several different styles and varieties of mead so that you can form your own opinion and connect a taste experience with everything you’ve heard. Because, as they always say, a taste is worth a thousand words. A materials fee of $20 (cash or check payable to the instructor) will cover all the supplies needed for the class. The Noble White Wines: racy, relaxing, revered; see, swirl, smell, sip and savor the world’s enduring white wines and discover their signature characteristic. From Riesling to Sauvignon Blanc to Chardonnay, develop a sense and appreciation of these classic styles. Learn the basics of reading domestic and foreign labels, and don’t ever be intimidated again at the sight of a restaurant wine list or when shopping for pocketbook values that rival expensive bottlings. Each participant will sample six wines paired with various cheeses. You’ll discuss what you taste in a joyful experience. Play a game of wine trivia with prizes awarded. Also receive a glossary of terms, suggested wine-food pairings and other related materials. There is a 21+ age requirement to participate in this class. White Wine Tasting
These small plates offer a big culinary experience so unique that they have left their mark on the dining experience, with tapas bars and tapas parties! With a wide array of flavors and ingredients, these recipes are fun to create, easy to execute and leave you with a social experience full of culture and flavor. Marinated olives, prepared several ways start us off. Sautéed mushrooms and en tapenade are to follow. We will dine on flavorful beef skewers along with a shrimp dish that includes white beans. A delicately grilled bread and classic patatas bravas will perfectly round out our tapas experience! NOTE: A $25 food fee will be due to the instructor the night of class. Not Your Average Pasta Sauce
If Red Wines Could Talk: The Bold and The Beautiful; the worlds noble reds Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah (Shiraz), Cabernet Sauvignon tell us a lot about themselves in the terroir (soil, climate) in which they grow. Explore the unique traits of these wines from France, Chile, Italy, South Africa, California and Washington State. Learn about tannins and the use of oak barrels that affect a Wine’s taste and structure. Each participant will sample six wines paired with various cheeses. We’ll rate the wines the way the experts do and play a game of wine trivia with prizes awarded. Participants will also receive a glossary of terms, suggested wine-food pairings and other related materials. There is a 21+ age requirement to participate in this class. Red Wine Tasting
Pasta sauce is so much more than your typical tomato based sauce and the rich and creamy alfredo sauce we all know and love. Discover pasta sauces with unique combinations that will delight and inspire you. Roasted garlic and a balsamic reduction paired with a rustic bread will get us started. Spinach salad with a citrus vinaigrette is a great light new salad option. Pasta with chic peas, pancetta, sage and rosemary is being served up, alongside an orrenchette with broccoli rabe with a hint of rosemary. What about an egg noodle with a roasted butternut squash butter sauce with a hint of cream? These recipes will become your new go to sauces.
