Information for New Employees



BUSINESS CARDS: With the approval of their supervisors, employees may obtain business cards by filling out and submitting a request to purchasing. You can obtain a form on the Purchasing Department webpage.

COPY CENTER: Copy Center hours of operation and instructions on obtaining copies can be found on the Administrative Services webpage.

EMERGENCIES: In case of emergencies please refer to the Emergency Management Plan.

FITNESS CENTER AND UMASS LOWELL RECREATION CENTER: All employees can use the Fitness Center and UMass Lowell Recreation Center as follows:

BEDFORD FITNESS CENTER
The Bedford Fitness Center is located in the Campus Center, is equipped with state-of-the-art weight training and cardiovascular equipment that will satisfy both the inexperienced and experienced user. Locker rooms and showers are provided. The Fitness Center is open to all currently enrolled MCC students, faculty, and staff at no charge throughout the year. The Fitness Center consists of a certified personal trainer and student assistants, and members may receive personal training at no charge. Stop by for a free tour or a workout! Questions? UMASS LOWELL RECREATION CENTER
MCC faculty and staff, and partners and spouses of MCC faculty/staff, are eligible to purchase memberships at the UMASS Lowell Recreation Center. This multimillion dollar facility offers an overwhelming variety of workout options, including basketball and racquetball courts, an indoor track, and a large quantity of cardiovascular and weight-training machines and equipment. Faculty and staff memberships cost $300 for 12 months, and may be purchased directly at the UMASS Lowell Recreation Center. Questions? COLLEGE CLOSING POLICY: Information on how to find out if the college is closed because of inclement weather may be found here.

LEGAL GUIDELINES FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES: Information on two important laws governing public employees can be found here. The conflict of interest law and the campaign and political finance law are complex and violations can result in hefty fines so it is important that you familiarize yourself with both of these laws.

LIBRARY: Employees can obtain a library card and take out books and other resources not only from the college's libraries but can access materials from other libraries and through many on-line sources. Information can be obtained at the Library web page.

MIDDLENET DIRECTORY: This directory lists all employees, their titles, departments, telephone numbers and office locations. Some employees also have web pages linked in the Directory. The directory is on the My MCC page in the lower left-hand corner.

NEWSCASTER: All Employees may have information regarding Personal/Family news posted on the College-wide Newscaster email system in accordance with the Newscaster policy.

ORIENTATION: At the start of their employment, all employees who are in benefitted positions must meet with Julie Kelley to go over all benefits and to complete necessary paperwork.

PARKING: For employees at the Bedford Campus you must obtain a parking sticker application from Susan Fitzpatrick, ext 3519, Facilities Building, #11, complete and return it to Susan. For employees at the Lowell Campus you must obtain a parking sticker application from Carmen Pagan, Lowell Campus, 5th Floor, ext 3156, complete and return it to Carmen. Full-time employees at the Lowell Campus also need to complete an application to receive a parking garage pass. This can be obtained from Carmen also and submitted to the garage to receive the pass. SCHEDULING ROOMS FOR MEETINGS: Employees may reserve rooms for business meetings by filling out a request through R-25. Once logged into the Middlesex Portal you should click on room reservations which is under College Services on the General Information screen and follow the directions listed. You can search the availability of a specific room or search to see what rooms may be available at a specified date and time.

TECHNOLOGY ACCESS: New employees will be given access to technology services including email,telephone, network services and "my mcc" portal login generally within 48 hours of the Human Resources (HR) office receiving the mandatory hiring documents. If you need additional access see your department manager.

TRAVEL & EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT: All employees can go to FORMS tab on the MCC Portal to search for and download the travel & expense reimbursement form or click on this link. Fill out and have your supervisor sign off and attach receipts and send to Ann Dawson in Bedford – Bldg. #10 Cataldo Bldg.

TUITION WAIVERS: Tuition may be waived at the College and at other public higher education institutions in accordance with the College's tuition waiver policy and the system-wide tuition waiver policy. Spouses and dependent children may also be eligible for tuition waivers.
