ACE: AVIATION AND SIMULATION (Ages 10-15)
Co-sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration, Middlesex Community College is celebrating its 19th year hosting Aviation Career Education (ACE). In Aviation and Simulation, you will explore many of the possible aviation careers and meet experts from those fields. Learn the fundamentals of flight by designing, building, and testing your own model aircraft and rockets. On field trips, you will witness airport operations first-hand and learn more about what it takes to have “the right stuff.” For an additional, fee of approximately $60 your child will have the option to take an instructional flight; weather dependent. Details provided the first day of class.

GOLF (Ages 12-15) In golf, and in life, sometimes the ball doesn’t always bounce your way. We believe that sports, specifically the game of golf, provides a platform to encourage core values and healthy choices. In addition to learning the fundamentals of the golf swing and the game, your child will be introduced to life skills that help youth and teens prepare for success at school, at home and in their community. Lessons are offered, in a fun, activity-based, group setting. There will be a field trip included with this program. Participants will need to bring their own golf bag with minimum supplies including a putter, wedge, mid iron, long iron/hybrid, and a driver.

ARTWORK IN THE MAKING (Ages 8-11) In this course children will have fun creating and exploring mixed media and a diverse variety of art. Learners will be given the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials and tools to create several different art pieces. Each student’s personal interest and unique abilities is embraced in an atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to learn from each other. Students will have an opportunity to work on an ongoing collaborative outdoor art piece. A field trip is included with this program.

LEGOMINDSTORMS EV3 (Ages 8-11) Lego Mindstorms EV3. MCC has purchased Mindstorms sets to explore and build with this summer! Kids will learn basics of robot building and programming. Kids are put into teams of four and presented daily challenges. They will design, build, and test robots in a fun competitive atmosphere. Bring your imagination as you work closely in a team to create a competitive robotic masterpiece.

BEDFORD CAMPUS - HALF DAY 

CODING FOR KIDS (Ages 8-12)
Learning how to build simple websites and games help children with problem solving, design and logic. Using free software that your child can then use at home, we will explore various sites designed to introduce kids to the world of coding.

CALLING ALL EXPLORERS (Ages 8-12) Come explore the world with us! We will use Google Maps, and Google Earth and other free mapping tools to virtually explore the world. Volcanoes, Shipwrecks, Sharks, and Whales will all be found as we explore the Earth and under the sea! Dive into a glass bubble on the other side of the planet, and have a look around. Learn how to make your own maps and save them. We will even go into space via Google Moon, Mars, Sky, and the NASA website. All participants must have a Google/Gmail account set up prior to starting as they will need to have their log in information available during the program.

PLEASE NOTE: For kids that wish to take BOTH Coding for Kids and Calling all Explorers programs, there will be childcare available in between the two offerings from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Be sure to send your child (ren) with lunch.

LOWELL CAMPUS 


FASHION BAGS AND JEWELRY (Ages 8-11) Do you love to accessorize your clothing? Children will learn how to create jewelry that suits your style, whether it be a necklace, a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a bag. Students will lunch at a local restaurant one day (there will be an additional fee of approximately $12 for lunch) and will embark on a walking field trip to the Brush Art Gallery and The Art League of Lowell to see how jewelry is made. At the end of the week children will be able to showcase all of the accessories they have made.

ALL ABOUT SCIENCE! (Ages 12-15) 
Experiments? Rockets? Cool chemical reactions? Animal Care? Forensics? Geology? Come to All About Science for a medley of fun activities. Learn how science works in the real world. A portion will involve children overcoming challenges the instructor presents to the group. Maybe simple machines, maybe catapults, maybe fingerprint identification. You never know what you will discover in All About Science!
