What We Do

SoTL Logo

SoTL provides regular professional development opportunities for MCC faculty and staff. SoTL members are invited to participate in meetings, projects, and conferences to encourage collaboration and camaraderie. In addition, members work on action research projects geared toward supporting MCC students.

SoTL members may choose to attend some of the following events:

  • SoTL Monthly Meetings: In SoTL meetings, new technologies and practices are presented, in addition to opportunities for collaboration and discussion. Often, departments from around the college discuss the services and support they offer. See the Events Calendar for monthly meeting dates and locations.
  • Winter Retreat: Each January, SoTL plans a day long conference for SoTL members that includes keynote speakers, panels, and breakout sessions. Topics focus on current initiatives, such as student retention and persistence, equity-minded teaching and student support.
  • Get Inspired! May Conference: This conference often includes a renowned keynote speaker, student panels and breakout sessions to help faculty and staff close out the academic year, while inspiring members to consider practices and strategies they can apply to the next academic year.
  • 100 More!: 100 More! faculty are dedicated to improving student retention in their courses. Faculty use various outreach and support strategies to help students persist towards graduation. Faculty collaborate using a blog and share their findings and experiences at SoTL monthly meetings. If you are interested in joining the 100 More! group, please click on Get Involved.
  • Launch Group: SoTL’s launch group includes community members from around the college. Members plan SoTL meetings and conferences, ensuring that SoTL is upholding its mission and working together to promote student success and faculty/staff support.
