Anatomy & Physiology Prerequisite Exam
***Anatomy & Physiology Prerequisite exams are currently being offered remotely on
a limited basis. Students wishing to take the exam must have access to a computer
or laptop with a webcam. For questions regarding testing or to schedule your exam
please e-mail placement@middlesex.mass.edu.
Meeting the Prerequisite Requirement:
Students wishing to take BIO 231 Anatomy and Physiology I must meet a general biology
prerequisite by:
- Taking and passing a general biology course with a C or better (within the last 5 years).
- Pass the A&P Challenge exam with a minimum score of 73% (47 out of 65).
A&P Challenge Exam Information:
The exam...
- consists of 65 multiple choice questions.
- is timed for 2 hours
- may only be taken once
Reviewing for the Exam:
Questions on the following topics are included on this test
- atomic structure, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, major inorganic compounds (acids, bases, salts, water), pH, buffers, major organic molecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, ATP), enzymes
- characteristics of eukaryotic vs prokaryotic cells, animal cell structure (cell membrane, membrane transport, organelles), cell respiration, protein synthesis, cell division
For review, students may wish to refer to the biology textbook used at Middlesex Community College, Biology, ninth edition, by Sylvia Mader.

Schedule the exam
- Make sure you have a computer or laptop with a webcam you can use for your test. You will not be able to run both the test and Zoom simultaneously on a tablet or Chromebook.
- Check that your device is able to run the ACCUPLACER test platform at https://www.accuplacer.org/#/systemRequirement All minimum requirements must pass for students to be able to take the exam.
- Currently, A&P Challenge test appointments may only be made by contacting us at placement@middlesex.mass.edu
- Go to the Zoom website, download and install Zoom https://www.zoom.us/download#client_4meeting
- To check that Zoom was set up correctly, visit https://www.zoom.us/test Please use the option to join with video
- Sitting for the exam
- Sit in a quiet place where you will be undisturbed while testing.
- Clear a workspace for your monitor, mouse, keyboard, blank scratch paper, pencil and photo ID. All other items must be removed from your table or desk. Calculators and cell phones are not allowed at your workstation at any point.
- Have your voucher number written at the top of one of your pieces of scratch paper. You will need it to access ACCUPLACER.
- Use the zoom invitation below to call into your appointment and open https://www.accuplacer.org/
- Receiving your scores
- Scores will be returned immediately, students that do not receive a passing score will have to take a general biology class to satisfy the prerequisite requirement.
