We’ll start off the course getting to know each other and learning about color theory and mixing as well as experimenting with different acrylic painting techniques. Create several acrylic paintings during the course. We will work from our imagination as well as from observation while creating our paintings. This course will be great for students who love to paint but don’t have the chance to explore this medium during the school year. (Ages 8-17) The Children’s Theater program, taught by Performing Arts Chair, Karen Oster, will run at the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Lowell, MA. Drop off and pick up are at this location, 50 East Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA. Final productions are scheduled on Friday night July 27th and Saturday afternoon July 28th. There will be an additional fee of $50 payable to the instructor, Karen Oster, via cash or check. The fee covers the cost of additional supplies and 4 complimentary tickets for entrance to the performances. July 9-July 12 FASHION DESIGN (Ages 12-16) Are you interested in the texture, style and design of clothing? If so, then this is for you! We will explore fashion tools and techniques to help you develop your own style and express your individual creativity. Lowell, a city rich with textile history and tradition, is an ideal setting. The students will lunch at a local restaurant one day (there will be an additional fee of approximately $12 for lunch.) Each student will receive an original gown donated by a local bridal shop to transform. We will display our creations at a fashion show on the final day. Children will learn how to create jewelry that suits your style, whether it be a necklace, a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a bag. Students will lunch at a local restaurant one day (there will be an additional fee of approximately $12 for lunch) and will embark on a walking field trip to the Brush Art Gallery and The Art League of Lowell to see how jewelry is made. At the end of the week children will be able to showcase all of the accessories they have made. This program will inspire, prepare and motivate a diverse community of learners to think about entering the field of Laboratory Medicine with the tools and knowledge to contribute positively to the healthcare field. Students will learn entry level medical laboratory techniques and perform routine lab testing in a hands-on environment and through various activities. If you love to do experiments and can see yourself working in a lab setting then this program is for you. There will be a walking field trip to a local hospital to see what a true lab setting looks like and to see everything in action, up close. This program will explore the fundamentals of improvisation by developing support, trust, risk taking, and confidence with each young actor. This means developing not only a quick-wit but some physical comedy as well. Everyone will participate in many exciting and fun theater games, movement exercises, and ensemble-building activities that will culminate with a live improvised performance.
