Tracking and Intervention

In an effort to support timely identification, early intervention and outreach to at-risk students, the college has used Title III Strategies for Success grant funds to purchase SARS ALRT software.  This online Academic Alert (previously called Early Alert) and referral system enables faculty and staff members to identify students in jeopardy, as early as the first few weeks of class.

Here's How it Works:

  1. Instructors identify students who are having difficulties in their class using the Academic Alert Referral Form.
  2. The College selects appropriate intervention strategies based on the students reported difficulties.
  3. An email is sent to the student, letting them know that their instructor is concerned about their academic progress in class. The email encourages them to take advantage of the services listed.
  4. Additional emails are generated and forwarded to all the campus services areas available to help the student. Each of these areas follows up with the student using a variety of communication media including: email, phone calls, and snail mail (U.S. Postal Service).
  5. An email will be sent to the instructor who initiated the referral once the student has followed up with the campus service department OR if the student has chosen not to follow up.
