MCC MUSIC OUTREACH PROGRAM
The MCC Music Department Outreach Program in Lowell, begun in 2005, offers a variety of concerts, lectures, demonstrations and workshops to students at Lowell High School and the Middlesex Charter School. Presentations are given both at LHS and at the MCC Federal Building, Assembly Room. These events afford high quality musical experiences, which go beyond the normal high school curriculum, and create a dynamic relationship between Middlesex Community College and the K-12 Fine Arts Pathway initiative. The Music Outreach Program also presents student LHS performing ensembles in noontime performances at the college.
The coordinator of this program is Johannah Segarich.

Music of the 'ud, an ancient Arabic instrument which is the precursor of the European lute and the modern guitar, is one of the most intricate and alluring sounds of the Middle East. Nabil Ata, an accomplished musician and 'ud player, will present a lecture/demonstration and workshop for three MCC classes on Wednesday, February 11 from 10:30 – 11:45 and from 12:00 – 1:15.
Mr. Ata will introduce students from World Music and Guitar I to the foundations of Arabic music, the melodic modes (maqamat) and the rhythmic cycles (iqa'), and will perform music and speak about his background and training. In the second session, Mr. Ata will work with more advanced guitar students in a master class setting.
This event is open to all MCC students, faculty and staff, and the general public.
