About Me:
I'm a Professor of History have been a member of the faculty since 1981.  I am Director of both the Commonwealth Honors Program and the Humanities Center as well as Co-Advisor for the Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society. My general teaching and research interests are in world history with a specialty in history of religion and cultural interactions. During my time at Middlesex I developed the world history curriculum transitioning from the Western Civilizations emphasis of the1980s. In addition to my teaching, I helped create the first Center of International Programs and became its coordinator (1989-1994), where I developed contract training programs with the Soviet and then Russian Banking industry as well as created the first cross-cultural exchanges with Moscow Pedagogical University. I also was an early adopter of online teaching and was one of the founding members of the Technology Committee and a participant in the now defunct Virtual Education Research Group. I served in various leadership roles at the college as president of the Faculty/Staff Union and the Faculty Staff Association (FSA).  I have also lectured on a variety of topics including: “Immigration in Lowell," “Teaching World History," and “Intersections of Culture on the Silk Road" at a variety of places including the MILES Program as well as at the Department of Indic and Sanskrit Studies at Harvard University, the University of Maryland's Humanities Series, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Stockholm School of Economics Riga Campus. Currently, I'm on the Executive Committee of the National World History Association and President of the New England Regional World History Association and serve as co-editor for H-World, an online world history forum at H-Net for the Humanities and Social Sciences.  I earned a Ph.D. from Northeastern University, my Masters from the University of Connecticut, and Bachelor's Degree from Suffolk University.
