for the Annual Fund.

he MCC Foundation Annual
Fund campaign was launched in
the fall of 2006, with the theme,
Focus on Our Future. To date,
the Fund has raised more than $210,000,
and funded 47 grants for faculty and staff
initiatives.
The Commonwealth now provides less
than 35 percent of the college's operating
budget. That fact, coupled with the reality
of a growing enrollment, makes the need
for private funding critical. Every donation
makes a difference!
"MCC's Annual Fund has grown every
year, and we are encouraged and energized
by the diversity of our donor base and the
reasons they have for giving," said Alice
Rouse, Assistant Dean of College
Advancement and Director of the Annual
Fund. "We are continuing our outreach to
faculty, staff, alumni and retirees, as well as
the corporate community, so we can
continue to fund many more grants."
Rouse noted that all money collected for
the Annual Fund goes directly back to the
college in the form of grants. She pointed
out how the grants have impacted many
people at the college. In 2007, a grant was
awarded for the creation of a walking and
fitness trail on the Bedford campus, which
is now linked to the Bay Circuit trail, a
200-mile network of trails across
Massachusetts. This year, the college
hosted a 5K fundraiser run on the Fitness
Trail, which attracted more than 100
runners and also raised funds for the
Foundation.
Last year, the Veterans Resource Center
received a grant to create volunteer
advocate training programs and health-
based workshops. Adding these support
services for veterans returning to college
benefits Middlesex and the veterans
now and in the future.
Two years ago, the Annual Fund
inaugurated the Change for Change
collection canisters to support the Student
Emergency Fund, which also is supported
by an Annual Fund grant. Donation
canisters are located next to the registers in
both Bedford and Lowell cafes and
bookstores to encourage everyone to drop
in their spare change. All money collected
goes directly to the Fund. More canisters
may be placed in other locations next year.
The Fund also receives all revenues from
spring and fall Trivia Nights.
"Our Annual Fund is very unique to
Middlesex," said Dennis Malvers, Dean
of College Advancement. "The MCC
Foundation lets us dedicate all money
raised to support faculty and staff
initiatives. Often, a college Annual Fund is
distributed by the college administration,
rather than via proposals submitted by
faculty and staff."
All donations help to support Middlesex
special programs and projects that
positively impact teaching, working and
learning. We hope that the 40th
anniversary's a record year for
contributions! It would be a wonderful
tribute to President Cowan's 20 years of
leadership.
