CARES Act Funding Disclosure

As part of the CARES Act, the US Department of Education (ED) recently authorized more than $7 billion of emergency funding to colleges and universities across the United States. Middlesex Community College signed and returned the certification and agreement form to the US Department of Education to receive funds from the CARES Act. Middlesex Community College has been allocated $1,852,172.00 in funding to distribute directly to students.

In accordance with federal requirements, only students who are Title IV eligible (those who are eligible for federal student financial aid) based on their FAFSA have an opportunity to receive a grant. Grants cannot be awarded to non-Title IV eligible students, International students, DACA students,  and students who do not meet Title IV satisfactory academic progress guidelines.

Spring Semester 2020 Awards

Middlesex disbursed $350.00 awards to Title IV eligible students who were determined to participate in classes past April 20, 2020. Students enrolled in fully online courses prior to March 13, or students not attending classes past March 13th and therefore not impacted by the disruption to campus operations were not eligible to receive CARES Act funding.

In addition, the Office of the President sent an email to all enrolled students on May 6th informing them of a separate application form to fill out if they had other potentially qualifying expenses that resulted from the disruption of campus operations and additional awards were determined on a case by case basis.

Summer Semester 2020 Awards

Students enrolled in online courses offered prior to March 13 and  therefore not impacted by the disruption to campus operations were not eligible to receive CARES Act funding.

In addition, the Office of the President sent an email to all enrolled students on May 6th informing them of a separate application form to fill out if they had other potentially qualifying expenses that resulted from the disruption of campus operations and additional awards were determined on a case by case basis.
