Why carbon-fiber instruments?
Luis & Clark, a Boston-based company developed and owned by Luis Leguia, a long-time member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and his wife, Stephanie, produces innovative carbon-fiber string instruments that are well suited to the needs of RUFA and the new orchestra.
In addition to producing high quality, warm, rich tone, carbon-fiber instruments will be more durable than wooden instruments in the hot, humid climate of Cambodia – where air-conditioning is often not available.
Luis & Clark carbon-fiber instruments are produced from environmentally sustainable materials. During a 2010 visit to Lowell, Yos Chandara, RUFA's Dean of Music, played several of these innovative instruments and was highly impressed.
