Welcome to Phi Theta Kappa

PTK Key

Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society of Two Year Colleges. The Middlesex Chapter, Alpha Delta Omicron, inducts members every semester.

According to PTK's website: "The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence."

The hallmarks of PTK are Scholarship, Leadership, Fellowship, and Service. The mission is two-fold: first, to recognize and encourage the academic achievements of two-year college students and second, to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in Leadership, Service, and Fellowship events.

The MCC Alpha Delta Omicron chapter of PTK is a vibrant student organization that has been recognized locally and nationally for its accomplishments. MCC's PTK members have received the PTK New England Regional Alumni award, PTK member of the year, as well as numerous academic scholarships.

If you have any questions, please contact us at PTK@middlesex.mass.edu.

How to Join

To be eligible for membership, students must have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average after earning at least 12 credits at Middlesex.

Eligible members will receive an invitation to join PTK through the mail or via Middlesex email.

Those who wish to pursue this prestigious honor should attend the PTK induction events, complete the form, and pay the membership fee of $70. This one-time fee covers the cost of national and regional membership dues.

If you would like to join the honor society but are unable to pay the membership fee, a fee waiver is provided with the membership application. A limited amount of waivers are available for students each year.

Benefits of a Phi Theta Kappa Membership

There are several benefits to being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa including:

  • A notation on your official MCC transcript and gold seal on your diploma indicating PTK status
  • A stole, presented to each graduating member of PTK to be worn at commencement
  • Ability to access CollegeFish.org, a national scholarship database for all PTK members
  • PTK pin and certificate
  • Active members receive additional benefits such as funds to attend regional & national conferences, possible nomination for scholarships and awards, and more.
  • Membership guarantees you access to more benefits than any other student organization, including eligibility to apply for transfer scholarships offered by Phi Theta Kappa to fund a baccalaureate degree. For example, you would be automatically enrolled in CollegeFish.org, a transfer planning program that also includes detailed information on transfer scholarships offered only to Phi Theta Kappa members at 4 year institutions across the country.
  • Membership also includes an array of benefits designed to help you grow as a scholar and leader. Our chapter allows you to network with a group of like minded students on campus and hone critical leadership skills such as researching issues in your community, working on a team to plan ways to impact or resolve those issues, learning to effectively communicate and collaborate with fellow students, faculty, administration, and local businesses, and learning to negotiate conflicts in a positive way through our Honors in Action program.
  • The Middlesex Community College PTK chapter meets regularly and plans several fun and educational events. Getting to meet new friends and classmates is another great benefit of being inducted!
