2 From Humble Beginnings ELBOW ROOM Almost immediately after the first classes began, the college already felt cramped in its facilities. This was due in great part to the location of the campus, on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bedford. With the Vietnam War still in full tilt, the VA had no shortage of veterans in need of medical assistance, and Middlesex had no shortage of students to fill the two small buildings it was allocated. The college’s emblem adorned the entrance to the Bedford facility. ▲ An impressive building on the outside, its interior posed many problems for faculty and staff. ▲ 13
