Dear Consumer:

The Middlesex Community College Consumer Protection Program is one of a network of 19 local Consumer Programs throughout the Commonwealth working in cooperation with the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. We will attempt to mediate your complaint through an informal process involving letters and phone calls to you and the business in an effort to reach a mutually agreeable settlement. If we are not able to resolve your complaint through mediation we will discuss with you the options of face-to-face mediation through the Middlesex Face-to-Face Program, seeking redress through Small Claims Court or referral to the Mass Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service. Because of limitations on the resources of the Office of the Attorney General, they generally take legal action only when the claims affect a large segment of the population. A computerized copy of your complaint will be on file with the Attorney General's Office so that they can effectively monitor emerging patterns related to your complaint and be in a position to intervene when it is deemed appropriate.

Below you may download a printable version of the Complaint Form. In order to process your complaint properly and to provide assistance to you, we need your cooperation in filling out the complaint form as thoroughly and accurately as possible. Please read the following instructions carefully before completing the Form and returning it to our office.

Information We Need From You

  1. Please include your complete address and a phone number where you can be reached during the day.
  2. Provide the complete and accurate name, address, and phone number(s) of the company or individual(s) with whom you are having a dispute.
  3. Be sure to attach copies of any contract, work orders, repair orders, bills, receipts, advertisements, or any other documentation that may be relevant in evaluating your complaint. Please do not send originals.

The Complaint Mediation Process

Once we receive your completed Complaint Form it will be reviewed by our staff, and a Merchant Response Form will be sent to the business. Please Note that, because of the volume of complaints received by our office, it may take three to four weeks to begin actively mediating your case. We ask for and appreciate your patience during this time.

Meanwhile, we suggest that you contact the individuals involved in this dispute in an effort to reach a mutually agreeable settlement of this matter.

Other Assistance

If you have questions concerning the specific application or interpretation of the law, you should consult a private attorney. If you do not have an attorney you can call the Mass. Lawyer Referral Service at (617) 542-9103 or 800-392-6164. If you cannot afford an attorney you may be eligible for assistance through your local Legal Service Office.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We hope we can provide assistance to you.

Sincerely,

MCC Law Center Staff
