What You Need to Know Host a Virtual Watch Party

Don't let the current state of things keep you from celebrating! LTC will be live streaming MCC's Virtual Ceremony online. Create a watch party to share your accomplishment with family and friends. The virtual ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2020 with a photomontage starting at 9:30 a.m. and the official ceremony starting at 10:00 a.m.

How to Host a Facebook Watch Party

How to host a Facebook watch party with your friends and family to celebrate commencement:

  1. Search “LTC Lowell” on Facebook and go to page.
  2. Find the live stream of virtual commencement. Start playing the video.
  3. Click “Share” at the bottom of the video.
  4. Click “Start a Watch Party.”
  5. You can choose to add a description for your watch party, then click “Post.” It will post to your Newsfeed/Timeline.
  6. Once you're in the watch party, add friends to watch with you either by adding names or sending the video in a private message. 
  7. To end the watch party, click the three dots in the top right corner of the video, then click “End watch party.”
  8. Have fun and enjoy celebrating this accomplishment!

How to host a Zoom Watch Party

How to host a Zoom watch party with your friends and family to celebrate commencement (If you are using the free version of Zoom, there is a 40 minute time limit for more than three people):

  1. Download the Zoom app on your computer.
  2. Open the app; click "Schedule."
  3. In the "Schedule Meeting" window, set the date and time to: May 27 at 10 a.m.
  4. Make sure video is checked ON for both hosts and participants.
  5. Check Audio to "Telephone and computer audio."
  6. Click "Schedule." A confirmation window will pop up with your Zoom invite information.
  7. Click "Copy Invitation."
  8. Create an email message to all friends and family you'd like to invite. Paste the invitation information into the body of the email. Send email.
  9. Open the MCC Commencement YouTube video in your browser. (Start playing the video.)
  10. On Zoom, click "Share Screen" at the bottom of the Zoom window. Make sure "Desktop 1" is selected.
  11. IMPORTANT: at the bottom of the window, make sure boxes are checked for "Share Computer Sound" and "Optimize Screen Share for Video."
  12. Click "Share" so your participants are now viewing your screen with you.
  13. Please note: Clicking on “Participants” in the top bar of Zoom will open a window giving you the option to mute and/or turn off participants’ audio and video. Clicking on “More” in the top bar then “Chat” opens the chat window.

How to host a Google Hangouts Watch Party

How to host a Google Hangouts watch party with your friends and family to celebrate commencement (all participants must be using Gmail accounts):

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Open Google Hangouts.
  3. Click "Video Call.”
  4. Type the email addresses of the people you are inviting (must be a Gmail account).
  5. Click Invite.
  6. Open the MCC Commencement YouTube video in your browser. (Start playing the video.)
  7. Once your participants have joined, click on the three dots at the top right corner of your screen. Then click “Share Screen.”
  8. In the “Share Your Screen” window, click on the image under “Your Entire Screen.” Make sure there is a blue rectangle outlining the box. Then click “Share.”
  9. You are now sharing your screen with your participants. 
  10. Have fun and enjoy celebrating this accomplishment!

How to host a Houseparty Watch Party

How to host a Houseparty watch party with your friends and family to celebrate commencement:

  1. Open the Houseparty app on your computer.
  2. Open the MCC Commencement YouTube video in your browser. (Start playing the video.)
  3. Start a "House Party" by selecting the desired person(s).
  4. In the “House Party,” click "Share Screen" – it appears as a desktop icon. You may also see options to select which parts of your screen to share, like the app window or browser tab. You will see the message "You're sharing your screen" appear at the top of the house party box.
  5. Have fun and enjoy celebrating this accomplishment!
