In 2009, Middlesex celebrated the opening of the Culture Garden, the college’s adopted pocket park on Middle Street, near the Lowell campus. Thanks to MCC Art Professor Margaret Rack, Performing Arts Chair Karen Oster, MCC students and Middlesex groundskeepers, the community now has a beautiful outdoor performance space for music, art and reflection. A public-art installation, created by Rack’s students, was inspired by stories of food, flowers and family gardening traditions from around the world. Members of the Lowell community shared their stories with the art students, who created the wall-mounted metal sculpture to reflect the rich diversity of the city.
A Culture Garden Preservation Fund has been established by the MCC Foundation to help maintain the Culture Garden for years to come. If you would like to donate to the preservation fund, please download a donation form or donate online..
