Group Exercise

Group exercise is a great way to accomplish your exercise goals, while also meeting some new people and feeling great about yourself!  MCC offers a variety of group exercise options for students and employees.  Past group exercise activities have included YOGA, Pilates, Bootcamp, aerobics, Tae-bo, P90X video workout, kickboxing, running club, and indoor walking.

Group exercise options change each semester depending on participant interest and available space and instructors.  This semester, we are offering the following group exercise options:

Circuit Training (Mondays, 4:15-5:15 p.m. in the Bedford Fitness Studio)

Looking for a unique exercise opportunity? This group-centered personal training model allows for a work-at-your-own pace approach with customized focus on everyone's individual goals. Want to reduce body fat, gain muscle, get strong and fit?  Participants will be encouraged to determine specific objectives and develop a plan for success. Cardio and strength training intervals will change weekly to work all muscle groups. Some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) will be incorporated allowing participants to raise their heart rate during short bursts of challenging activity. A variety of equipment will be used to keep this class fresh, fun, and lively! Circuit Training is taught by Rebecca Newell who is ACE certified group fitness trainer and has previously taught kickboxing, weight lifting, and circuit training at MCC.   This selective class is open ONLY to the first 7 people who register. Due to the personal attention and participant support, this class will fill quickly – don’t wait too long to register.   Circuit Training  starts on Monday, February 9th and runs for 10  weeks during the Spring 2015 semester.  Cost is $40 and must be paid in advance.

 

YOGA (Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Lowell Student Lounge)

Want some YOGA in your life?  Who doesn’t?!  Back by popular demand, join us for this 10-week YOGA program – open to all members of the MCC community.   Classes will be held on most Wednesdays (starting on February 4th) from 4-5 p.m. at 45 Middle St on the MCC Lowell campus.  Facilitated by certified YOGA instructor and former MCC faculty member Shelli DeMarkles, this class is perfect for all abilities.  Shelli is a dynamic, vibrant, skilled instructor who welcomes and values all participants.  YOGA mats will be provided – just show up with your good attitude and spirit of adventure.  Thanks for considering this wonderful way to get some get physical and mental wellness in your life! Please be sure to pass this info along to colleagues, peers, and friends who might also be interested.    Cost is $40 (in advance), or $10 per walk-in visit. 

 

Bootcamp (Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Bedford Fitness Studio)

Ready to kick start your exercise routine?   Consider Bootcamp at MCC!  In this high-intensity outdoor group fitness class, participants are challenged with a consecutive series of exercises ranging from runs to weighted lifts to plyometrics and more. The nonstop style of the class makes for a fantastic cardiovascular workout while the selection of strength based exercises provides for muscular development as well. Participants are free to modify exercises as necessary and increase or decrease intensity based on their physical capabilities. Whether you're looking to lose weight, gain stamina or just spice up your workout, this class will push you to your limits!  Bootcamp is facilitated by certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor Jenna Nickerson – a 4th year undergrad at UML studying Exercise Physiology  and  Nutrition , expecting to graduate with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018.  Bootcamp  starts on Wednesday, February 11th and runs for 10 consecutive weeks during the Spring 2015 semester.  Cost is $40 and must be paid in advance.  Open to the first 7 people who sign up.
