PSY 125: Psychology of Success (3 credits):

What does it mean to be successful? What do we contribute personally to our success? Is success the same in our personal lives, at work, and at school? Can the factors that bring us success in one aspect of our lives be utilized in another area? This course is designed to help students develop greater success in college and in life. Using guided journal writings, class activities, and focused conversations, students will apply relevant psychological concepts and theories to gain more control over experiences and outcomes in college and in life.

Academic Notice Frequently Asked Questions:

What is an “Academic Standing”?

Academic standings are assigned to students based on their cumulative grade point average (GPA).  While “Cumulative” means including all the classes you have ever taken at MCC, only the highest grade earned for each class is included.  Your cumulative GPA is calculated by multiplying the total number of credits you’ve earned by the total number value of your grades.  Students in Good Standing maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Why am I on Academic Notice?

Unfortunately, at the time of review, your cGPA fell below a 2.0. Your academic standing has been determined based on the chart below:

What do I need to do now that I am on Academic Notice?

It is very important for you to take steps to be more successful in your coursework.  Once you are on Academic Notice, you have your next two enrolled semesters to raise your cumulative GPA to a level above probation. If you are unable to make that academic progress, you may be suspended from Middlesex for one semester.

The college has designed coursework to help you.  There is a “hold” on your records to remind you to complete this course and will prevent you from registering for classes or making necessary changes to your schedule. Please be aware that when you enroll in your intervention course you can enroll in other classes too.

If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Morrow, Assistant Director of Academic Progress and Retention.
