MIDDLESEX COMMUNITY COLLEGE
SC 2116 Anatomy and Physiology II
Laboratory Syllabus
Anne Miller
Description: The laboratory accompanies the lecture section of Anatomy
and Physiology II and designed to supplement and strengthen
the lecture material. Each week, you will have a hands-on
experience with the concepts being studied. The Eye and Ear sections offer microscopic and gross anatomy followed by physiological tests. The Respiratory exercise integrates Spirometry with the physiology presented in lecture. There are five weeks of in depth experiments on the Cardiovascular System followed by three weeks on the Digestive System. The Urogenital System and Embryology exercises supplement and apply the lecture material.
Grading: 25% of the grade you receive in SC 2116 is based on your
laboratory performance. You will pass in a report one
week after completion of the lab. Each report represents
20 points towards your lab grade.
Attendance: You are expected to attend each laboratory and if a problem
arises please arrange with me to attend another lab or work on
your own as each laboratory missed is a 10% loss on your laboratory grade.
Laboratory Manual:
Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual 2nd ed. Anne Miller
Pedagogy
The intended audience for this manual is the student with some
biology and chemistry backround who is interested in the study of
the normal human body. The manual states the objectives for each
session and gives a detailed protocol for investigation. Embedded in each
exercise are relevant questions and data sheets that provide a deeper
understanding of the theory or system being studied. The emphasis is on
learning through active participation and deductive reasoning.
Collaboration, discussion, and questioning with laboratory partners is recommended and strongly encouraged. Years of student input and expressed apprehensions have led to the development of an intuitive and user friendly manual that is self-paced, inclusive, and individualized.
Table of Contents
The following exercises are designed to complement the lectures of Anatomy and Physiology II and make optimum use of the equipment available in the laboratory and the computer room. Each laboratory was written to reinforce the structure/function relationship of the system and provide the student with a user-friendly protocol that is suitable for the time constraints and complexity of the course.
