(front row, left to right) Virak Uy, Director of MCC's new Asian American Student Advancement
Program; State Sen. Eileen Donughue; State Rep. Rady Mom; Middlesex Trustee Bopha Malone;
and members of the college community.
WHO
The Asian American Connections Center opened Thursday, March 2, 2017.
WHEN
Located off the Lowell Campus Cafeteria, the center features computer workstations, couches
and chairs. Co-curricular activities and a peer-support program will be designed to increase
Asian-American students' sense of connection and belonging to the college.
WHERE
Thanks to a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Asian American Native
American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) program
, Asian-American students
will receive a range of support services designed to improve their college-going experience,
completion and transfer outcomes. More than 11 percent of MCC credit students are Asian
American, primarily Southeast Asian.
