A the world. Through workshops, panel discussions and small-group breakout sessions, delegates shared and collaborated on strategies to improve social innovation and entrepreneurship. A resident of South Medford, Manita is studying environmental science and economics at Middlesex, and has been active in the Merrimack Valley Sandbox’s Campus Catalyst Program. The Sandbox was launched by a multimillion-dollar grant from the Deshpande Foundation to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Merrimack Valley. The Sandbox operates as a coalition between UMass Lowell, Middlesex, Merrimack College, Northern Essex Community College and nonprofit organizations in the Merrimack Valley. One of 17 delegates from the Merrimack Valley and New Brunswick, Canada, Manita attended the Deshpande Foundation Development Dialogue 2013, an international conference on entrepreneurship, held Jan. 30-Feb. 1, in Hubli, India. Accompanied by Dona Cady, MCC’s Dean of Global Education, Manita joined hundreds of practitioners, academics, investors, grassroots activists, philanthropists and entrepreneurs from India and around Profiles Through Campus Catalyst, which is supported at MCC by the Desai Foundation, Manita has brought his own innovative idea to fruition: The FLY Mentor Program. His program connects Middlesex students with local high school students to encourage them to finish school and prepare for college. Manita traveled to Hubli – site of another Deshpande Sandbox initiative – with support from the Provost’s Office and the Middlesex Community College Foundation.
