Committed to providing professional development opportunities to their
employees, LGH provides tuition reimbursement, as well as
flexible scheduling to ensure employees make it to their classes.
The CHAA course covers a lot of ground, including customer service and
communication skills, and the steps necessary to maintain the integrity
of patient data. It also includes lessons on different types of insurance,
deductibles, payments and denials, definitions of terms used throughout
the billing cycle, and the rules governing Medicare and Medicaid,
"It connected everything," said Krysten Schmidt, a 24-year-old Patient
Services Representative, who has worked at the front desk in the
Emergency Room on the Saints Campus for 18 months. "It made me
much more aware of what I was doing and why. I also learned a lot of
terminology I didn't know before, and it made me feel more confident
in my work. It was really excellent."
Jodie Young, 39, the Financial Coordinator in the LGH Cancer Center,
heard about the CHAA training and asked to sign up. She wanted to
learn more about what staff dealing in other aspects of the
patient-care cycle do and why.
