MCC Foundation
The Middlesex Community College Foundation (MCCF) was created in 1988 as a 501 c (3) to enlist private sector support “in furtherance of the educational and charitable purposes of Middlesex Community College.” It is the vehicle for fundraising from individuals, corporations, small businesses and private foundations.
Massachusetts community colleges have traditionally relied on state appropriations to supplement their tuition and fee structure. But, the difficult reality of unrelenting budget shortfalls and the public policy commitment to controlling tuition and fees has affirmed the need to seek alternate funding sources to provide the college with the funds and flexibility to further its mission.
Since 1988, The MCC Foundation has generated income through revenue from investments managed by the MCC Foundation Board of Directors, the proceeds of the college’s annual Celebrity Forum fundraiser, and the State Matching Grant Program. Proceeds from the MCC Annual Fund Campaign provide an additional source of income.
The MCC Foundation now provides administration and funding for:
- Scholarships to assist MCC students who meet donor-described criteria
- The Historic Nesmith House in Lowell (after underwriting its complete restoration)
- The MCC Meetinghouse on Concord Road near the Bedford Campus
- The annual MCC Celebrity Forum
- An Annual “Special Presentation” of the One World Series which is free and open to the college and community
- Selected special activities, such as MCC’s Night at the Lowell Spinners
The MCC Foundation Annual Fund Campaign allows MCC:
- To secure unrestricted funds which allow the college to fund innovation by meeting emerging needs
- To meet an emerging criteria in many grant proposals regarding the disclosure of participation levels for faculty and staff giving
- To maximize our eligibility for state matching funds
- To reach out to those who want to support the college and the work it does.
