FALL 2011 CONCERT SCHEDULE
Ryu Goto, Violin and
Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, Piano
The internationally acclaimed Japanese-American violinist Ryu Goto has performed throughout Asia and the U.S. After hearing him, the noted conductor Lorin Maazel claimed that Goto is “... a sterling violinist with impeccable technical credentials and a personal musical flair. He has rightfully taken his place among the top echelon of today’s young performers.” He and MCC faculty member Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta will perform works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, Ravel, and a solo work for violin by Paganini will also be featured.

The Evolution of Samba: Brazil’s National Rhythm
Many selections illustrating this most important rhythm in Brazilian music will be performed. The intertwining of popular and classical musical influences, African and indigenous musical elements, and the impact of American Jazz on Brazilian music will be explored. The performers will include MCC faculty member Thomas Rohde, guitar; Fernando Brandao, flute; Anna Borges, vocals; Marcus Santos, percussion; Jurandir Santana, guitar/viola caipira and Rosangela Santiago, dancer. This event is co-sponsored by the MCC Foundation and the MCC Curriculum Initiative.

José Lezcano, two-time Grammy nominee, and Franziska Huhn, New England Conservatory faculty member, will perform a colorful program of works by Hovhaness, Ponce, Morel and Pujol.
