Middlesex Community College presents
Frames of Engagement: Looking at Asia Through Art - November 7-8, 2009

Middlesex Community College is sponsoring a workshop, “Frames of Engagement: Looking at Asia Through Art” on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the MCC Lowell Campus, Federal Building, 50 Kearney Square. This will be followed by a guided tour of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Steve Goldberg, Associate Professor of Art History at Hamilton College, will lead the workshop sessions and Museum trip, both of which will focus on modern Japan and China and the impact of cultural contact with the West. On Saturday afternoon, he will also present a special workshop-within-a-workshop devoted to technology and curricular development, mainly through the development of PowerPoint presentations, podcasts, object-based inquiry, and first-hand experience with Asian art objects at the MFA.

This workshop will provide insight on how to look at Asia through its art and will include practical ideas for enhancing courses and curriculum in Asian studies. Participants in this symposium will include college, university, and high school teachers, primarily from humanities and social science departments.

There is no fee for the Nov. 7 workshop (lunch included). Participants will pay the group entrance fee for the Museum trip on Nov. 8.
