Leadership Opportunities

All students are welcome and encouraged to participate in opportunities designed to develop their leadership style and abilities.  Life skills taught in these workshops include:  Time Management, Conflict Resolution and Career Decision Making.

Other great ways to meet fellow students and develop your leadership style are:  join a club, start a club, run for Student Government, apply for an International Fellowship, attend a One World Series lecture, or go to any one of the wonderful programs offered by our offices and our clubs.

• Community Engagement In partnership with MCC's Center for Community Engagement, opportunities exist for student organizations and/or individuals to work with community partners to provide service as a one-time activity or on an on-going basis.  Organized service opportunities are scheduled throughout the year including an annual Alternative Spring Break program in March.

• Dean's Advisory Council This committee of students works with the Office of the Dean of Students to foster an environment where civility and caring for one another are valued and affirmed by upholding MCC's Community Standards and Core Commitments.

• International Fellowship College-sponsored fellowships to various countries are offered annually to help prepare students for lives in a global economy and a world without borders.

• Multicultural Achievement Peer Program (MAPP) MAPP seeks to enhance the success and well-being of multicultural students by providing them with persistent and successful peer mentors.

• Paul H. Sullivan Leadership Institute The Institute prepares participants for a smooth and successful transition into becoming leaders in the workforce and community.  Fellows are selected annually to participate in an intensive and interactive calendar of workshops and events.

• Student Achievement in Leadership Students may participate in one or both tiers of a noncredit leadership curriculum.  Emerging leaders participate in an annual selection of free workshops that offer students the opportunity to acquire new information and enhance their personal and professional leadership qualities.  Students accumulate points on their tracking sheet.  Junior Leaders participate in a series of workshops and discussions throughout the year.  Students who complete these programs receive recognition and a certificate of completion for each level.

• SUGA (Student Union Government Association) (B/L) This 16 member student board, elected annually, meets weekly on alternating campuses.  Important campus issues affecting the student body are topics for discussion and action.  Interested students are encouraged to run for a seat on the board.  Meetings are open and all students are invited to attend.  Rebecca Newell, Adviser x3362; City, 4th Floor.

• SUGA Internships (B/L) On campus paid and volunteer opportunities are available at different times throughout the year.  Positions are designed specifically for students to get hands-on experience related to their field of study or professional goals.  Internships are created based on individual requests by students or faculty.  Job descriptions vary and are developed according to a student's academic or career aspirations.
