Student Government
The Student Union Government Association (SUGA) represents the student voice. It works to promote cooperation and collaboration among students, faculty and administration of Middlesex Community College.
SUGA, in collaboration with the Student Activities Office, also sponsors student efforts to plan and promote programs and events for the campus community that offer social, cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities.
Clubs and Organizations
MCC Clubs are groups of 5 or more students who meet regularly to program activities based on their goals and interestes. New clubs can form at any time. If you don’t see what you are looking for here, stop by your Student Activities Office to find out how to get it started! Any student may join a club listed below regardless of the campus at which the club typically meets.

- General Interest and Multicultural Clubs
- ASA African Student Association (L) Student-run sociocultural organization responsbile for fostering a culturally diverse environment and increase unity among students. Pat Demaras, Adviser x3256; City 3rd Floor.
- AWARE Association for Wellness and Related Education (B) Promotes and sponsors activities and educational programs focusing on student health issues and concerns. Dorothy O'Connell, Adviser x3765; Campus Center Health Services.
- COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM (L&B) This student run club strives to make a difference in the local communities by volunteering at community agencies surrounding the Lowell and Bedford campuses. Melissa Welch, Adviser x3363; City 407B.

- LATINOS UNIDOS CLUB(L) Members strive to share their various ethnic cultures within the MCC community. They also assist members of their communities interested in entering college. Janin Duran, Adviser x3254; City 3rd Floor.

- NEW LIFE DISCOVERY (L) Provides opportunities for students to discuss issues and beliefs pertaining to faith. TBA, Adviser.
- SPECTRUM (B/L) Promotes awareness of diversity, sensitivity and visibility of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community at MCC. Melissa Welch, Adviser x3363; City.
- VETERANS (B/L) Provides information and support for Veterans, service members and their families through social activities. Dorothy O'Connell, Adviser x3236; City Health Service Office.
- WORLD READERS (L) Provides opportunities to improve English language skills while learning about other cultures. Mary Lou Horn, Adviser x3351; City 406.
- Academic Club The following clubs are dedicated to expanding knowledge and professional experience in their specific academic or specialized fields.
- BUSINESS & ECONOMICS (B) To explore entrepreneurship, discuss current business issues, analyze opportunities and evaluate the status of the economy. We will meet with small business owners, enter competitions and run career oriented workshops. John Femia, Adviser x6173; City, 5-10.

- FGDA Future Graphic Designers of America (B) To enrich the experience of students in the Graphic Design Program through community involvement. Joe Eiler, Adviser x3744; Academic Resources 204.

- NURSING CLUB (L) Provides students in the Nursing program an opportunity to provide services to the people in Lowell and surrounding communities. Tina Cormio, Adviser x3043; Middle Street, Derby 406.
- PERFORMING ARTS CLUB (B/L) Each semester a new company forms to rehearse, build and market a production. Prior experience is not required. Course credit is available for students enrolled in Theater Practice or Play Production. Karen Oster, Adviser x3939; North Academic 216.

- ART GALLERY ASSOCIATION (B) Presents exhibitions of artwork by students and professional artists throughout the year. Margaret Swan, Adviser x3803; Henderson Hall 103.
- THE CORE COMMITMENTS (B/L) Several activities and events are planned throughout the year that deliberately address the following issues: respect, character, responsibility, citizenship, integrity, ethics and tolerance. This year's programs will correlate with learning opportunities provided by a grant to educate the MCC community about personal and social responsibility. Speakers, dialogues and other unique experiences will be open to all.
- THE CREATIVE WRITING HOUR (B) Interested students can join this casual group to share writing or ideas. Tom Laughlin, Adviser x3839; Henderson Hall 101.
- CULTURAL CONNECTIONS (B) This group meets regularly to plan and promote multicultural events and programs. Pat Demaras, Adviser x3526; City 3rd Floor.
- FOOD FOR THOUGHT (B/L) This program encourages student-faculty engagement outside the classroom. Faculty and students enjoy both the casual conversations nd formal discussions that take place in restaurants or on campus. (Students should encourage their favorite faculty member to apply for funding.)
- INTEREST NETWORKS (B/L) These short-term activities will center on the topic of your choice! Designed for students who want to get together for a meeting or social program focusing on a particular interest or specific hobby. - ONE WORLD SERIES This annual speaker series features presentations focusing of challenging concerns in today's world.
- ON THE ROAD (B/L) Each event in this field-trip series is open to all students. Excursions have included theaters, professional sporting events, museums, comedy shows and hands-on recreational activities. Free or discounted tickets are limited.
- Sports Clubs MCC athletic activities include a variety of intramural and competitive sports programs and events. In addition, recreational leagues offer an informal social outlet for interested students.
- BASKETBALL (L) This intramural club offers students an opportunity to enjoy the sport while making new friends. Games are played in the evenings at the UMass Lowell Recreation Center in the fall and spring semesters. Open to any MCC student currently enrolled in six or more credits. - BOWLING (B) Offers an environment for social interaction and friendly competition. The Club meets weekly in Woburn to bowl. Marie Caruso, Adviser x3714; Henderson Hall, 116.
- DHARMA (B) Provides a safe and fun space where students can learn to apply the practices and principles of mindfulness to support their self discovery, empowerment and fulfillment. Gail Mooney, Adviser x3858; Henderson Hall.
- HOCKEY CLUB(B) Members meet regularly to practice and compete in recreational scrimmages against each other and other college sports clubs. This club participates in the New England College Club Hockey League (NECCHL) and the team practices at the O'Brien Rink in Woburn.
