

Who can get a Middlesex Library card?
Any faculty, staff, or registered student can apply for a Middlesex Community College Library card? You do not need a library card to access our Electronic Databases.
Go to the library and present identification indicating you are a current Middlesex student. You will be asked to fill out a registration form. A card will be issued to you immediately.ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION: A driver's license, or other picture ID, along with your current class schedule, to verify that you are a current MCC student.
How many items can I borrow and how long can I keep them?
Students
May borrow a total of 10 items. There is a limit of 3 items per subject.
Books, periodicals and CDs circulate for 3 weeks.
VHS tapes and DVDs circulate for 1 week.
Current issues of periodicals do not circulate. All items may be renewed once.Faculty and Staff

How do I renew library materials?
You can present your library card at the desk and ask to
renew your materials, or, you can renew online.
You were automatically assigned a PIN when you registered for a library card.

.Note: You will be able to renew any checked out items provided:
The item has not reached its maximum number of renewals
Renewals are allowed
Renewing the item will not accrue a fine
An overdue notice has not been sent
In addition, You will not be able to renew items if your card has expired, or if you have previous fines or bills.
You may also link to your patron account from the Library Home Page and within the library catalog.
What happens if I return materials late?
If an item is returned after its due date, the fine will be .10 a day. The maximum fine is $4.00 per item.
Reserve items returned late have a $5.00
fee per day.
If an item is returned and the fines are not paid, they
will be attached to your library account. Fines must be paid before borrowing
any additional materials.
How do I request materials online?
Middlesex Community College Library is a member of the library consortium called NOBLE (North of Boston Library Exchange). This is a group of 27 public and college libraries that share their resources. You can request items from these libraries, or either MCC campus library, online.

How do I borrow item that are not in the NOBLE catalog?
Interlibrary loan is a program which allows individuals to borrow periodicals, books and other materials beyond NOBLE when they are not currently available. The Virtual Catalog searches individual Massachusetts library catalogs simultaneously for a book, video or other item, informs you who owns it and whether it is on the shelf. Only items not available in NOBLE may be requested. You must be a current borrower in good standing to request items. If you can't find what you are looking for in the Virtual Catalog, contact a reference librarian for assistance Login instructions are available.
The Virtual Catalog enables you to search and request from individual academic and public Massachusetts libraries a book, CD, audio or video. The system informs you who owns an item and whether it is on the shelf. You will need to login with your library barcode and library PIN and select a pick-up location. Material can be delivered to either the MCC library in Bedford or in Lowell. Please ask a librarian for help with the virtual catalog if you need it. Note: If you have outstanding overdue materials they will need to be returned, first to use this service.
How can I view what I have borrowed or requested from the library?

How can I tell when items I requested are available for pick up?
If you know where the item you requested is coming from, you can track the request in the catalog. When an item is sent from the requested library it acquires the status of in transit. When received by the library you designated, the status changes to onholdshelf. Middlesex ibrary staff will notify you when it is available for pickup. In addition, you can log into your library patron account with your library barcode and PIN and click on requests to see its progression
Your library account allows you to view a list of items you have checked out, renew items already checked out or request items. You can access your account at any time even when the library is closed.
