Mission Statement Fitness and Wellness is a state of mind! The Fitness Center staff encourages the college community to make a commitment to accept physical fitness as a life long process. The college experience is a multi-faceted endeavor, which incorporates academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. Our goal is to provide the entire college community with recreational programs and scientifically demonstrated fitness principles that will develop positive change in our community's health and well being. The college community is encouraged to participate in the fitness, recreational, and intramural programs, which help to foster physical, social, and spiritual well being. The overriding goal of The Fitness Center and Recreation Department is to assist the college community in acquiring "a zest for healthy living."
Membership The College Fitness Center, located in the Bedford Campus Center, is open to all MCC students, faculty and staff, at no charge, throughout the year (summer season included). Complete with locker rooms and showers, the Fitness Center is equipped with state-of-the-art weight training machines, computerized LifeStep and LifeCycle cardiovascular machines, rowing machines, a treadmill, and free weights.
The Fitness Center Staff is certified in personal fitness training and will assist in planning well-balanced individualized programs and provide information on nutrition, body composition analysis, exercise techniques, and stress reduction.
In Lowell, special discount memberships are available to MCC students at the UMASS Lowell Recreation Center. Opened in 2002, this 65,000 square foot multi-million dollar facility offers state-of-the art fitness equipment, multiple athletic courts, studio spaces, intramural sports, and a host of available member services. Free services (with purchased membership) available to MCC members include: towel and locker service, fitness orientations, Fitness and Nutrition workshops, and sauna/showers. Members may also borrow (at no charge) equipment for: pool tables, badminton, racquetball, medicine balls, squash, stability balls, basketballs, ping pong, jump ropes, air hockey, weight belts, and foosball. Other member services available to MCC members (for a fee) include: Personal Trainer Package, Nutrition Package, Combo Package, Partner Training, and Massage Therapy.
Memberships for students cost $15 per month. Memberships may be purchased at the Student Activities Office in Lowell (X3394) or at the Fitness Center in Bedford (X3785). You may also take a free tour of the UMASS Lowell Recreation Center prior to purchasing a membership – simply go to their facility at 100 Pawtucket St. in Lowell.
