Financial Aid

Appeal Process

Students can appeal the suspension of their financial aid eligibility. Special consideration may be granted in cases of unusual circumstances. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Financial Aid Office using the MCC Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal form with all appropriate documentation and an unofficial copy of the most recent academic transcript. Students should appeal if they are not maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress due to an exceptional circumstance (i.e. serious illness, death of a family member, etc.) or administrative error. The Financial Aid Office will notify the student by mail of an appeal decision. Students whose appeals are approved will remain eligible for financial aid for one semester or one academic year, and continued eligibility afterwards may be based on additional academic conditions, such as successfully completing 75% of all registered semester or academic year courses and a minimum GPA of 2.0, as an example. Students meeting the appeal reinstatement conditions may continue to be eligible for financial aid.

Evaluation of one or more of the following conditions may result in reinstatement of financial aid:

              1.  An error has been made when determining academic progress.

              2.  Late grade changes or course corrections have been submitted.

              3.  Exceptional medical or personal circumstances.

              4.  Substantial changes in curriculum or change of major.

              5.  Other extenuating circumstances.

Maximum Timeframe Appeals Process

Appeals for the maximum timeframe requirement must be submitted in writing using the MCC Academic Completion Appeal Form, based on the conditions stated above. This appeal must include an explanation from the student of the need for additional credits, a degree completion plan signed by the student's academic advisor which includes the courses remaining by semester and an expected graduation date, as well as an unofficial copy of the most recent academic transcript.

The Financial Aid Office will notify the student by mail of the appeal decision. Students whose appeals are approved will remain academically eligible for financial aid for the period of time approved to take on the courses needed to complete their program of study.
