During official breaks they may work full time. For this type of employment a student does not need the approval of the International Student Office.

OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT

F-1 students who may have been enrolled on a full-time basis for one full academic year may seek curricular practical training. This training must be an integral part of an established curriculum and must be connected to an internship or cooperative education assignment in the student's field of study. Before work begins a student must have an offer of employment from an employer and written authorization from the International Student Office.

After completion of all course requirements for the degree an F-1 student may seek optional curricular training. This training  is for full-time employment that is directly related to the major area of study and can last a maximum of 12 months. Before work begins the student must apply for authorization and receive an employment authorization card from the USCIS (U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services).
