Part-Time MCCC Unit Professional Staff Position

POSITION: Bi-Lingual Career Development Specialist
This is a Grant Position at The Career Place, one of the state’s thirty-seven One Stop Career Centers, funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position provides guidance and direction to a diverse community of customers with different learning styles, abilities and backgrounds seeking employment with a primary focus on providing career development assistance to individuals with language barriers and/or individuals receiving federal and state assistance, as well as, other unemployed customers.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Outline eligibility and assess individuals for specific services and describe policies and procedures for accessing available services and resources;
2. Assist with recruitment efforts in the community;
3. Conduct one-on-one and group career development sessions, as needed, to clarify and refine the needs of and options for specific customers;
4. Responsible for establishing and maintaining contact with community based organizations;
5. Assess individual job search, education, training and vocational needs and develop Customer Action Plans describing needs, options, and strategies for achieving career goals;
6. Work with customers to explore and develop career development options, accessing career center services for re-employment;
7. Using the case management approach, collect information as required by funding sources, and maintains files and case notes as part of established procedures;
8. Maintain ongoing contact with customers, as required by funding sources, and as determined appropriate for individual customers.
9. Other duties as required to support the development and implementation of the one-stop-center approach.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Position reports to the Director of Career Services, The Career Place.
QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires experience working with diverse populations with different learning styles, abilities and backgrounds and experience conducting and leading workshops. Position also requires strong written, interpersonal, organizational and attention to detail skills, demonstrated ability to work as a team player to meet goals and a willingness to work within a structure requiring standard operating procedures and policies and a strong command of the Spanish language. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
STARTING DATE: Early-July, 2009
SALARY: $22.65 per hour for 35 hours per week. This is an ARRA funded position without benefits available only through June, 2010.
