Part-time Financial Aid Assistant – Lowell Campus

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                          

Responsible for providing exceptional student service and administrative support for the Financial Aid Office at the front desk, answering incoming calls, respond to questions from students and parents and process student aid applications and documents in the BANNER student information system as well as maintain student folders.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to inquiries about financial aid to applicants from diverse backgrounds in person, on the telephone and via email, answering questions where possible or referring to appropriate staff as necessary.
  2. Clarify financial aid policies and procedures for applicants and families.
  3. Assist applicants with application filing, preliminary paperwork and supporting documents as required by federal law.
  4. Distribute in-coming and out-going mail for the department.  Date-stamp all incoming mail.
  5. Verify that all incoming student and parent documents for file are complete.
  6. Responsible for tracking these documents in BANNER with the appropriate action status.
  7. Create and maintain student files by determining which documents are appropriate for new or continuing students.  Return student files to cabinets when necessary.
  8. Assist students in the submission of a financial aid application, loan master promissory note and loan entrance counseling on the web during peak processing times.
  9. Assist with the office book-voucher process at the beginning of each semester. 
  10. Assist in the mailing of office letters (such as award letters, Academic progress letters and missing information letters).
  11. Maintain working knowledge of office policies and procedures, as well as financial aid rules and regulations as they relate to front desk responsibilities.
  12. Make phone calls to students as directed or during appropriate divisional or departmental outreach activities.
  13. Provide administrative assistance to the Director, Associate Director and other office personnel.
  14. Assume other appropriate responsibilities as requested.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma
  2. Computer and data entry skills
  3. Excellent customer service
  4. Experience in a fast-paced environment
  5. Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language
  6. Knowledge of the English language, including spelling, word meaning and word usage
  7. Ability to gather information by examining records and documents
  8. Ability to assemble items of information according to established procedures
  9. Ability to understand and apply the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the College
  10. Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  11. Experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
  12. Ability to deal tactfully with others and establish rapport with others.
  13. Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain discretion in handling confidential information.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
  15. Ability to file materials in accordance with standard filing procedures.
  16. Ability to maintain accurate records.
  17. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.

SALARY:               

$12.50/hour for 20 hours per week
