SALARY:

Grade 10 ($69,100 - $103,600 annually).  Starting salary within this range is dependent on upon experience in a closely related position.  Anticipated starting salary for a seasoned candidate is expected to be $80-85,000.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs, responsible for providing academic leadership and administrative oversight of the faculty, staff, students, and programs of the division.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*

 

  • Establishes, maintains, and monitors policies that provide for the best and most current educational practices for the program in the division.

 

  • Promotes inclusive excellence for diverse students, faculty, staff and community members.

 

  • Oversees planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of educational programs, including accreditation preparation, self studies, and academic program reviews; develops division and department goals; and develops division technology requests.

 

  • Provides leadership, encouragement, and direction to faculty in development of initiatives and activities that promote positive program outcomes and personal development; acts as a sounding board for faculty and staff as they develop and articulate those ideas.

 

  • Administers specific components of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including computing the workload for full-time faculty, evaluating faculty and department chairs, making recommendations for contract renewal, promotion, tenure, and sabbatical requests.

 

  • Assesses the internal systems of the College as they apply to the division and makes adjustments, as necessary.

 

  • Determines priorities for budgetary expenditures; monitors budgets and electronically approves purchase requests.

 

  • Acts as ex-officio for College-wide Governance Committees and other committees and task forces, as assigned.

 

  • Serves as the head of the screening committees to recommend the hiring of full-time faculty to the Provost; makes hiring decisions on faculty adjuncts and full and part-time staff.

 

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and accrediting bodies' regulations and criteria.

  • Collaborates with personnel of other departments to ensure effective program implementation.

 

  • Resolves student issues; collaborates with others as necessary to achieve resolution.

 

  • Monitors the preparation of schedules and payroll for all adjunct faculty.

 

  • Prepares reports for the division and components of College reports.

 

  • Provides input to College leadership through the Academic Council and the Deans' Council.

 

  • Represents the Health Careers Division at internal and external meetings.

 

  • Implements and monitors activities and initiatives that are consistent with goals of the Division and the mission of the College.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.

 

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and practices in the field through peer association, attendance at seminars, study, and review of literature.

 

  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

 

Duties require knowledge of college administration and the health profession equivalent to completion of a Master's degree and seven to ten years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Doctoral degree preferred.

 

Commitment to the mission and philosophy of the college with a strong understanding and respect for the goals of the college activities.

 

Leadership, planning, management, organizational, and supervisory skills.

 

Ability to think strategically and to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and goals for the college.

 

Ability to recognize college-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment.

 

Financial management and negotiation skills.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED (Continued)

 

Ability to market programs and ideas; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations, and to work collaboratively with people to set and achieve common goals.

 

Experience in curriculum development.

 

Ability to interpret other legal and administrative requirements related to the division.

 

Demonstrated ability to work well with students, faculty and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Accountable directly or indirectly through subordinate managers for all Health Careers Division staff.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Middlesex Community College's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.

 

May use computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.

 

May involve occasional attendance at evening and/or weekend meetings.

 

More than half of time spent in normal office setting.
