SALARY: Salary Grade 5 ($43,300 - $62,700). Starting salary within this range is dependent upon experience in a closely related position.
START DATE: Anticipated approximately August 15, 2009

Position Title: Curriculum Specialist/Pedagogical Designer – Student Success & Retention Initiative
Department: Professional & Resource Development

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Curriculum Specialist/Pedagogical Designer for the Student Success & Retention Initiative reports to the Title III Activity Director, Assistant Dean of Professional and Instructional Development and is a knowledgeable and creative individual responsible for working with faculty and staff to develop, implement and evaluate an infused student success curriculum framework that will be integrated into selected courses, learning communities and advising programs as part of a multi-year, college-wide effort to advance and expand our student success and retention efforts.
The Curriculum Specialist/Pedagogical Designer will consult and collaborate with faculty, student development, academic and advising staff to design effective learner-centered curriculum and pedagogy to meet the needs of our diverse community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*
- Facilitate, with faculty and staff, the design, development, and implementation of collaborative, interdisciplinary academic and student development models for Introductory First-Year Experiences and Gateway Courses, Learning Communities, and advising and student support services models.
- Design and provide faculty and staff development activities, including in-service training related to teaching and learning, selection and construction of materials, and instructional uses of new technologies.
- Collaborate in the design of advising training for faculty and staff.
- Collaborate in the development of assessment tools including interpreting data and recommending procedures for effective learning and instruction,
- Assist faculty and staff to incorporate educational and learning theories as basis for programs.
- Assist faculty and staff in identifying and using pedagogical constructs and principles.
- Assist faculty and staff with community building strategies that promote inclusive excellence.
- Research and evaluate new technologies, materials and techniques for their applicability to educational uses and curriculum reform for the purpose of sharing with faculty and staff

· Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
· Performs other related duties as required.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING :
- Master’s degree required;
- Demonstrated applied experience in course design and development;
- Experience working with faculty and staff in designing and assessing curriculum for diverse student populations;
- Demonstrated skills in facilitating and maintaining open communication and human relations among colleagues with diverse professional backgrounds and levels of expertise.
- Experience creating and offering professional development programs;
- Experience in, and/or knowledge of, working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities;
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills;
- Experience in use and evaluation of technology;
- Higher education or community college teaching experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
Regularly uses computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
More than half of time spent in normal office setting.
