Project Management Certificate Program

Program Description
 

Today more than ever, effective project management is a necessity in accomplishing projects on time and in budget. Rapid changes in this fast economy drive companies to shorten design cycles, and get products to market faster. The Project Management Certificate program will give you the principles of project management and help you understand and identify the necessary project elements of, project scope, the project life cycle, risk, communication, scheduling, cost, quality and more. This is a proven program where you will work in project teams to apply the project management principles in class for first hand experience. Students are encouraged to bring real world projects to class for discussion.

To earn the Project Management Certificate, you must complete the 24 hour Project Management core course and two electives. The Project Management course and electives may be taken concurrently during the semester or over the course of several semesters.  You may also register for course a' la carte.

  • Nick is a Senior Associate with Pinck & Company, Inc., which provides design and construction management consulting services for the private and public sector.
  • Provided project management consulting services to public agencies (Massport Authority), Federal Government (General Services Administration), and Private clients (Volunteers of America), in managing large public and private engineering and construction projects in excess of $50 Million.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • B.S. in Construction Management
  • Currently serving 2nd term on the Board of Directors of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), New England Region Chapter
 
Project Management Principles

Almost everyone manages projects, every day. This program gives participants the basics of project management, whether you are in engineering, nursing, administration, technology, services, construction, manufacturing or any other industry. In this core program we will present, discuss, and practice the universal skill of project management with hands-on applications, exercises and case studies. Participants will get a solid overview of project management; learn about project definition and charter, the project life cycle, success factors, project boundaries and limitations, the statement of work and much more.(24 hours)

 Project Scheduling

Most topics are bound by time constraints that are affecting tasks and people in many ways. In this session, we will examine how to create an effective and accurate project schedule and how to manage the precious time you have. We will discuss Gantt charts, the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), and Critical Path as well as many other scheduling attributes you will need to be successful.( 9 hours)

Project Risk Management

Risk is an inherent part of any project, but causes many project managers anxiety and worry. In this program, we will learn how to identify and deal with project risk effectively, including a basic 3-step process, tools, and techniques to manage risk issues appropriately. Along with most risk comes conflict, so we will also teach and discuss conflict and negotiation, project constraints and how manage change during your project.(9 hours)

MS Project

This poject management tool is one of the most widely used electronic tools in circulation.  This hands-on course will introduce you to the world of MS Project through which you will learn the features and functions to plan, execute, and control your work.  You will learn the work breakdown structure, scheduling, tracking and controlling project tasks, resource management, adjusting schedules, cost analysis and much more.  Pre-Req:  Familiarity with MS Windows and project management. (15 hours).
