Location:  Middlesex Community College, 44 Middle Street, Lowell, MA. Talbot Building, Room 301/303
Application dates: October 13- January 15, 2010 on a space available basis.

Program Description:   Middlesex Community College’s 100-hour certificate training program (including 23 of weekend clinical hours at a long-term care facility) will prepare students for an entry level career in health care as a Nurse Assistant, as well as obtain a certification as a Home Health Aide. The goal of the Nurse Assistant Training program is to prepare students to sit for the Massachusetts state certification exam and to learn how to care for residents in long-term care facilities  The Mass. nurse assistant exam is a separate fee and is not included as part of the tuition.   Students will learn how to care for residents in long-term care facilities and will practice the following skills:  personal patient care, patient rights, lifting and turning patients, safety, infection control, vital signs, record keeping, mental health care of residents, and stress management.  Students must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Student must have a High School Diploma or GED and a valid photo ID.  Seats are available on a space available basis until filled.  Tuition:  $950.  Note:  Clinical training will be April 25, May 1,2,8  from 8 am to 3 pm.

1.  Copy of MOU.  Please read and sign the student Memo of Understanding (link to form is below)

2.  Copy of MCC English placement test scores or a copy of college transcript indicating English Comp I with a grade of C or better. Student English placements score must meet or exceed the following:  Reading score of 56 or above (College Reading III or above) and placement into ENG 071 (Basic Writing). NOTE: In lieu of placement test, students may provide a college transcript indicating English Comp I with a grade of C or better.  NOTE: To schedule a placement test appointment, please call MCC at 1-800-818-3434

Required texts:  The following (3) textbooks are required for the program and are available at the MCC Lowell Bookstore by calling 978-322-8323 or you may purchase at your preferred online book vendor.  All three texts are second edition, 2007 by Hartman Publishing:  The Nurse Assistant's Handbook (textbook and workbook):   ISBN 1-888343-91-5  and  ISBN 1-888343-92-3;  and The Home Health Aide Handbook, ISBN 1-888343-76-1.  Cost of texts:  Approx $60.
