Mary-Jane McCarthy, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, addressed students, their families and friends at the December 2008 Recognition Ceremony. She stressed to students the importance of finding one's way back into the classroom despite barriers and competing demands. She asked students to strive to be the main character in their own lives.
Meriam Essofi, the Student Speaker, expressed her gratitude for the support she finds in the Adult Learning Center at a difficult time in her life. Staff were delighted to hear her say she wakes up Tuesday morning happy to be at the start of the school week and looking forward to seeing them. Meriam did acknowledge that coming back to school was hard work and thanked the other students and the staff for their encouragement.

Linda Young, Dean of Mathematics and Sciences Division, joined the Adult Learning Center staff to present students with certificates in recognition of their faithful attendance. Brian Mai and Thuy Duong achieved perfect attendance for the fall semester. Thuy is shown receiving her certificate from Dean Young.
Director Betty McKiernan, thanked students for their generous holiday donations of food for the Bedford Community Table/Pantry. She noted this is the fifth consecutive year that Adult Learning Center students have made such a contribution. Students were also recognized for their part in the Holiday Mail for Heroes program administered by the American Red Cross. Coordinated by Linda Molloy, they sent about 60 cards, signed and with a handwritten message, to service members spending the holidays overseas.
